Director of Operations
Flathead Electric Cooperative is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Operations. This is a full-time exempt position. Wage depends on experience, with an excellent benefits package.
Duties: Play a strong and visible role in promoting continued improvements to FEC’s safety culture; plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the construction, maintenance and repair of FEC’s distribution and transmission system, including coordinating operation and maintenance activities with other co-op departments; supervise the management of the line crews, servicemen, dispatch, right-of-way program, fleet, warehouse, Libby district and the employee in Cooke City.
Prerequisite Skills and Experience: Must have a current Montana driver’s license and be insurable; professional personal appearance at all times even though dress is casual; considerable knowledge of the
principles, practices and techniques of building and maintaining electric plant, grounding, and right-of-way maintenance; considerable knowledge of the equipment, materials and supplies used in building and maintaining electric plant, grounding, and right-of-way maintenance; familiar with the National Electrical Safety Code, National Electrical Code, and state or local electric codes; experience as a journeyman lineman and/or foreman or applicable electrical engineering experience and education; effective verbal communications skills, to include handling difficult situations; good customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a team; demonstrated people management and leadership skills; effective written communication skills, including being proficient in the use of personal computers; able to travel occasionally out-of-area and overnight. Physical requirements of the position are as follows: 1. Must be able to move throughout the building, as needed, each workday; 2. Able to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours a day using a computer, telephone, etc.; 3. Able to walk and/or stand for up to 8 hours a day over all types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions; must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds; 4. Northern Electric Cooperative, based in Bath, S.D., is seeking to fill its general manager/CEO position. The co-op has more than 2,840 miles of line in portions of 10 northeast South Dakota counties. The co-op serves 6,100 meters. Approximately half of the kWh sales is irrigation, commercial and industrial; the remaining half is residential. Beartooth Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Red Lodge, Mont., is accepting applications for the position of journeyman lineman.
Red Lodge is a friendly mountain town with an abundance of nearby outdoor recreation opportunities, including hunting, fishing, skiing and hiking. The town is close in proximity to Yellowstone National Park, and is only an hour away from the amenities of Billings, the largest city in the state.
The position requires the ability to perform all responsibilities required of a journeyman lineman, including rubber gloving, construction and maintenance of electrical transmission, substation and distribution systems. Applicants must have a valid Montana CDL, first aid/CPR card and journeyman lineman certification (completion of an apprentice course). The person in this position must be able to climb poles and operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes and other equipment commonly used in the utility business. In addition, the successful applicant must pass a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol test prior to employment. Preferably, applicants would live within 20 minutes of the Red Lodge shop.

Distribution engineering supervisor
Mission Valley Power, based in Pablo, Mont., has an opening for a distribution engineering supervisor.
The person in this position will prepare and direct the preparation of engineering plans and cost estimates for construction of improvements to the utility’s electrical system, and receive and complete assignments involving applications for service, operating problems or general improvements. This position involves gathering information by making field observations and measurements, and consulting Mission Valley Power maps and operating records. The person will be required to enter high-voltage substations, open locked, pad-mounted switch gear to inspect and review installations, make engineering analysis of problems and make appropriate recommendations. The person also will provide general engineering assistance for Mission Valley Power as needed, and give professional guidance and advice to all department employees and contractors on a regular basis.
Qualifications required for hiring include an engineering degree (a Professional Engineer license for Montana is preferred), a minimum of four years of experience involving the engineering of utility power lines, and including two years of supervising or directing other personnel in technical aspects of engineering, or five years of other engineering experience, with a minimum of two years supervisory experience.
