nergy Share of
Montana is a private
nonprofit organization
whose purpose is to help
Montanans facing energy
emergencies.
Next to this story, you’ll
find an Energy Share dona-
tion envelope, providing you
with an opportunity to help a
neighbor. Montana’s electric
cooperative members are
long-standing supporters of
Energy Share, and they
donated more than $29,000
last year — a $6,000 increase
from 2011.
“One-hundred percent of
that was used to help 80
Montana families who are
co-op members and faced
loss of heat or lights in their
homes due to unavoidable,
unforeseen circumstances,”
said Rachel Haberman, exec-
utive director of Energy
Share of Montana.
Last year, Energy Share
helped 602 families who are
members of Montana electric
cooperatives.
“We would not be able to
do nearly as much if it
weren’t for the generosity of
all Montanans,” said CJ Reid
of McCone Electric
Cooperative, the Montana
Electric Cooperatives’
Association representative on
the Energy Share Board. Over
the last 30 years, Energy
Share has helped more than
46,000 Montana families by
providing $15.2 million
toward their energy bills.
Energy Share Board policy
is that 100 percent of all
donations are used for fami-
lies in need — none of the
private donations are used for
administration. Energy Share
concentrates on providing
one-time emergency bill
assistance.
Families who live from
paycheck to paycheck face
financial emergencies when
unexpected expenses occur.
Frequently, Energy Share
recipients repay the program
after their emergency or need
has ended.
Those in need of energy
assistance this winter can call
their local Human Resource
Development Council, or the
statewide Energy Share
office at 1-888-779-7589. For
